And to know that this is one of those drinks that is lit on fire (literally), this one can make you even more excited as the flavor is little different than the usual cocktails.

Let us look more into the technical aspects of the recipe and how to make a Dr. Pepper cocktail.

Tips To Make Flaming Dr. Pepper

Overproof Rum is required to make it burn with flame. Do remember, any rum with lesser proof than 90 (probably) could not be set on fire.

They wouldn’t budge to burn. Any high proof drinks like Absinthe, grain alcohol can all do well with this technique.  However if it is a rum, the flavor is distinct and Flaming Dr. Pepper tastes like Dr. Pepper only with Rum.

Bacardi 151, Plantation OFTD, Hamilton 151, Lemon Hartl 151 (if available) and so on are really good choices for this cocktail.

One most important thing with this drink is its make. Since you are going to play with fire, make sure you do it with caution.

If you are making a party and preparing this Flaming Dr. Pepper cocktail by yourself, you need to be very cautious.  Because any small mishap can bring down your party in a jiffy.

While pouring the shot glass into the beer, make sure to put off the flame. Also, whenever you are drinking a flamed drink, you need to put off the flame.

Another important thing is to put away any inflammable items nearby when you prepare this drink, because they can easily catch fire if, by any chance you mishandle this shot glass with fire.

While slamming the drink in one shot, make sure you do not put the shot glass into your mouth.

Variations for Flaming Dr. Pepper

There is another variation to Flaming Dr. Pepper that you can do without actually dropping the shot glass into the pint glass. In this variation, you are going to place the shot glass into the pint glass.

Then fill the shot glass with amaretto carefully so that it does not fall into the pint glass. Now, layer the shot glass with overproof rum, again not dropping it in the pint glass.

Next, carefully fill the pint glass with beer only up to the level of the rim of the shot glass – just to make sure they both do not mix with each other at this stage of the drink.

You can now light the rum on fire and let it burn for 30 seconds. Put off the flame and gulp the cocktail now. Again, please be careful with the shot glass itself.

Related Drinks

This Flaming Dr. Pepper, Dr. Pepper Bomb and this Lunchbox Shot are called Bomb Shots as you tend to drop the shot glass into the beer glass, or you actually drop a bomb.

Flaming Dr. Pepper is known to cause hangovers, but it isn’t the actual reason, I would say. The Parties, and getting carried away with many shots like this may be the problem, so drink responsibly and stay safe.
