LIIT, and that is how it is shortly called, is a very popular drink that you can see in almost all the bars and restaurants. Rumored to have originated in Long Island in the 1970s, this drink has only gotten popular ever since.
This cocktail has had its fair share of criticisms. 1 – due to the fact that there are too many ingredients going in to make one. And 2 – this causes morning-effects.
And it’s highly likely that the cocktail got here with success because of the fact that this one is sure to make you boozy.
There are a number of variations on this classic drink. And people even claim a totally different mix as the original LIIT. This is ought to happen, so you better know what the original recipe is before you try it on your own.


Long Island Iced Tea Recipe

Equipment
- Highball glass
- Mixing Spoon
Ingredients
- ½ oz. (15 ml) Vodka
- ½ oz. (15 ml) White Rum
- ½ oz. (15 ml) Gin
- ½ oz. (15 ml) Silver Tequila
- ½ oz. (15 ml) Triple Sec
- 1 oz. (30 ml) Sweet & Sour mix
- 1 oz. (30 ml) Coca-Cola
- Lemon Slice (garnish)
Instructions
- Fill a Highball glass with plenty of ice cubes.
- Pour Vodka, Rum, Gin, Tequila, Triple Sec and Sweet & Sour and mix the drink well.
- Add Cola at the end and stir gently.
- Garnish with a Lemon slice.
- Serve and Enjoy the drink!

Tips To Make Long Island Iced Tea
✅ Instead of adding all the ingredients into the Highball glass, you can also add them to a shaker and strain into the Highball glass with fresh ice.
✅ As an alternative to the sweet and sour mix, you can use Simple syrup and add freshly made lemon juice.
✅ In case you need a little stronger LIIT, you can increase the content of the liquors and reduce the amount of mixers like Cola and Sweet & Sour mix. This reduces the color by a bit, but definitely strong!
✅ You can also add Mint leaves as Garnish, it is presentable as well!
Variations Of Long Island Iced Tea
As already mentioned, there are plenty of variations to this recipe. Some use Maple syrup instead of Simple Syrup.
And when it comes to variations in the liquors used, you cannot just imagine. In fact, you can also create your own version. Just give it a new name.
Miami Iced Tea – replaces Tequila with Peach Schnapps and Lemon-Lime Soda is used instead of Cola.
Hawaiian Iced Tea – doesn’t use soda, instead uses Pineapple Juice
Long Beach Iced Tea – replaces Cola with Cranberry Juice
LA Water Drink – replaces Coke and Sweet & Sour mix with Blue Curacao, Melon & Raspberry Liqueurs
