One of the easiest drinks to make at a bar, at a party and at home, Black Russian just mixes two different drinks together – Vodka and Kahlua (Coffee Liqueur).
Invented somewhere in the 1940s by a Bartender named Gustave Tops in a hotel bar in Brussels, Black Russian is the easiest to memorize for wannabe bartenders and is rich in sweet and energy.
The drink is in no way associated with Russia, other than the name itself. The name Russian probably refers to Vodka and Black refers to the Kahlua, which is a dark coffee based liqueur.
This cocktail is also one of the official drinks of the International Bartender Association (IBA).
If you are not familiar with this drink, you might know what a White Russian is – the creamy version of the Original Black Russian.
